It was a busy week. On Wednesday, we celebrated the launch of Michael Virtanen’s The River’s Tale with a book signing at Schenectady County Community College. The college sold two dozen books in an hour. The event was the idea of Pamela Walsh, an English professor who has used Mike’s first novel, Within a Forest Dark, in her reading and writing classes. Jack Kirkland, the main character in the first book, reappears in The River’s Tale as a secondary character. In both books, he is an insurance examiner investigating what may be a suspicious death.
North Country Books of Utica is distributing The River’s Tale to a variety of stores in upstate New York. We are told it’s now available at bookstores in New Hartford, Syracuse, and Watertown, among other places. In addition, we have left books at the Open Door in Schenectady, the Mountaineer in Keene Valley, Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid, the Community Store in Saranac Lake, and Hudson River Trading Company in North Creek.
We’ll be getting the book into other stores soon. Meanwhile, you can always buy the book directly from us at Lost Pond Press. Click here to find out more about the novel and/or purchase it. Until we upgrade our website, you can purchase only one copy at a time, but if you email us we can arrange to sell you multiple copies.
Mike will be signing copies of The River’s Tale at the Open Door on Saturday, June 15. Details to come.
Adirondack Explorer Editor Phil Brown will give a slide show based on his new guidebook, Adirondack Paddling: 60 Great Flatwater Adventures, at the Left Bank Café at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2. The presentation will focus on new paddling opportunities made possible by recent or pending state land acquisitions.
Adirondack Lakes and Trails Outfitters is co-hosting the event with the Left Bank Café. Tapas and drinks will be available.
Brown published Adirondack Paddling in collaboration with the Adirondack Mountain Club last fall. The book describes trips throughout the Adirondack Park. It contains more than 100 color photos of waterways, wildflowers, and wildlife and more than 60 color maps. The book was designed by Susan Bibeau of Saranac Lake.
Copies of Adirondack Paddling will be available for sale. Brown will sign them if asked.
We received shipment of Mike Virtanen’s novel The River’s Tale on Friday, and they look fantastic. We dropped off copies at the Open Door in Schenectady. We’ll be dropping off copies at North Country Books as well as Adirondack bookstores this week.
Schenectady County Community College will be hosting a book-launching event at the college library on Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mike will be signing books.
SCCC has used Mike’s first novel, Within a Forest Dark, in its English classes. The River’s Tale is a prequel to that book.
We are now selling both books through our website. We are still tweaking the site, so at the moment you can buy only one copy at a time. If you’d like to buy more than one copy, send us email. We hope to fix the website soon.
